Ray’onna is Reaching her Milestones!

With early help from Easterseals South Carolina, Ray’onna went from stiff little limbs and missed milestones to a social, curious child, as her family learned ways to support her and tools helped her stand, move, and share her needs.

When Ray’onna was born in October 2011, the hospital told mom, Kaela that the baby had lost oxygen and had a seizure just prior to delivery.  Kaela had to have an emergency C-section. The hospital then made a referral to BabyNet in Charleston.  


Kaela was familiar with Easter Seals SC as she has a nephew that received excellent services from Easter Seals in the past. Mom felt Easter Seals was the obvious choice to assist them with Ray’onna’s early development and milestones. 


Ray’onna was showing initial signs of Cerebral Palsy with stiffness in her arms and legs and she was slow to meet her sitting and crawling milestones. Once Early Intervention through Easter Seals SC began, Ray’onna learned to sit up alone, crawl, pull up and explore her environment.  Mom and other family members learned ways to help Ray’onna meet her needs of feeding as well as important play skills. Ray’onna uses simple signs to communicate most her needs. She is a very social, happy and active little girl with a sense of humor. 


Easter Seals provided contact to other seasoned providers that worked with the Early Interventionist to access Ray’onna needed assistive devices so she can be safe at home and like her peers at her daycare. Ray’onna has a team of home therapists that help monitor her “sit to stander”, her “gait trainer” and her overall global development.

Without Easter Seals SC our lives would be a ship wreck! Having an Early Interventionist for our family has been so helpful.  She has provided tremendous support and useful solutions through some difficult situations in Ray’onna’s life.
