What is Easterseals?
Easterseals provides services to help children and adults with disabilities and special needs, along with support for their families. For nearly 100 years, we’ve been helping families thrive. Today, Easterseals serves more than one million individuals and their families each year through over 550 service sites across the country. Each center delivers top-quality, innovative services tailored to meet the unique needs of the people we serve.

Are Easterseals services limited to specific types of disabilities?
No. Easterseals supports children with physical, developmental, and emotional disabilities or special needs—whether diagnosed at birth, acquired through illness or injury, or related to the aging process.

How many people receive Easterseals services each year?
Each year, more than one million individuals benefit directly from Easterseals programs. In addition, over 100,000 physicians, therapists, and other professionals participate in Easterseals education programs designed to improve care for people with disabilities.

History

Easterseals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for nearly 100 years. From child development centers to physical rehabilitation and job training for people with disabilities, Easterseals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life's challenges and achieve personal goals.

How is Easterseals supported financially?
Easterseals receives funding from private insurers, government agencies, and fee-for-service programs. To keep services accessible, we also rely on public contributions, which help cover the difference between program costs and what families can afford. You can support our work by making a donation online.

How are the funds used?
We’re proud to put your contributions to work where they matter most. More than 90% of Easterseals’ revenue directly supports services in the communities where funds are raised.

How large is the Easterseals organization?
Easterseals serves more than one million individuals each year through more than 550 service sites across the United States and Puerto Rico. Our national headquarters in Chicago supports more than 70 affiliates through training, best practices, and consultation services.

Is Easterseals a nonprofit organization?
Yes. Easterseals is a nonprofit health and human services provider, incorporated under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Does Easterseals have a religious affiliation?
No. Easterseals is not affiliated with any religion and does not discriminate. At our core, we share a passion for caring—united by our mission to empower children and adults with disabilities.

What are Easter “seals”?
The first “Easter seals” were stamp-like seals created in 1934 to raise funds for services benefiting children with disabilities. Then known as the National Society for Crippled Children, the organization was renamed “Easterseals” in 1967 in recognition of the campaign’s success and public support.

Do Easter “seals” still exist today?
Yes. Easterseals mails seals to more than 19 million households nationwide each year, raising nearly $14 million to support services for children and adults with disabilities and their families.
